The classic timbre of the BlackFace amplifier.
Classic American amplifiers of the 50s and 60s inspired us to create the American School series.
The Champ amplifier, which sounds unique both on stage and in recording, has been used by a wide range of artists, from Eric Clapton to Mac DeMarco.
The lightweight and portable Chepman Champ amplifier is ideal for studio, rehearsals and even club performances with a microphone. Our Vibro-Champ style amplifier is a 5—watt single-stroke Class A tremolo amplifier with clean and clear sound reproduction at low volume.
Sparkle, purity and shine — American amplifiers of the 60s are often described in such terms, and the Chepman Champ tube combo provides this feeling in the format of a small head or compact combo. With two 12AX7 and 6V6 preamp lamps in the power section controlling a 12-inch speaker of your choice, you get the perfect dense tube sound that responds to every nuance of your game. If you were looking for a compact tube combo for recording at home or even for small concerts, we highly recommend the Chepman Champ.

As with other Chapman Amps amplifiers, we have carefully selected the best components that match the design - transformers, CC resistors, OD capacitors for superior reliability, frequency response and feel. Structurally, Champ, like all other amplifiers of the American School series, is mounted on Eyelet Boards, without the use of printed circuit boards. All connections are made manually with high-quality Vintage Cloth wires.
Nothing beats a well—designed and short signal path with a simple control panel - our Chepman Champ amplifier is based on a circuit that has proven its effectiveness for almost 60 years!
Compared to other models in this series, Champ is most similar to PitOne. Tonally, Champ has a traditional "blackface" tonal stack, known for its purity, musicality and muted midrange frequencies. As with PitOne, we've also added a neat BOOST switch that disables the tone block. With BOOST enabled, the frequency response and Break UP are clearly more "tweedy" in nature. A single-stroke 6V6 power amplifier gives a fairly smooth transition to a loaded sound. We have also preserved an amazing cathode tremolo control scheme, which, in our opinion, surpasses the tremolo of the later "optical" type used in the older "Black Face" amplifiers of that period. The traditional cenotron in the power supply adds a pleasant feeling of warmth and light compression. To reduce the 50Hz background characteristic of the Champ design, we added another link with a throttle to the power supply.
